LOVING STRONGER 2023 🌟Come for the heat, stay for the community!🌟 The New Year kicks off with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 16th and rolls into Black History Month in February. During these eight weeks we're amplifying black leaders in our field. All too often the work of our black colleagues is sidelined by systemic racism in an algorithm that buries their content. Support black trainers, teachers, visionaries and performers by following, liking and sharing and watch your feed diversify. We're starting by highlighting one of our fav's; Chrissy King; Writer, Speaker, Fitness and Strength Coach, and [...]

Making Sure We Fuel Our Bodies This month it's all about FUEL. Your body performs best when it is properly fueled. Are you showing up for class ready to go? Making sure you’re well-fueled and hydrated, particularly in the summer heat, takes some intentional effort. More sweat out means more liquids in, adding in electrolytes (LMNT is the perfect on-the-go option!), and protein (grab an Apres from the cooler!) as you can. Properly fueling, also includes rest. That’s right, rest. In order for your body to perform optimally, it needs time to recover and repair. It also means [...]

Although it may feel tempting to hit the gas pedal and GO, now is the perfect time to slow down and make sure you're supporting your whole self as you journey [...]

March 2022 Newsletter

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb You know the ol' saying... in like a lion, out like a lamb, and like the month of March, we're here to remind you of the importance, and necessity of finding the balance between both strength and flexibility, intensity and softness. Our classes are designed to work together as a complementary series to holistically support a healthy body, mind, and heart-- the yin and the yang. We have learned stretching alone does not make us more flexible, which is why we have introduced functional range conditioning (FRC) and Kinstretch principles [...]

November 2021 Newsletter

Giving Thanks As the seasons continue to shift, and we move into November, we’re reminded to slow down and give thanks for all that has supported, and challenged (you read that right!), us throughout this last year. We are endlessly grateful for YOU and our BYUV Community, and wouldn’t survive and thrive without your energy, perseverance, and love for yourself, and those around you. Thank you.  The research shows spending just a few moments each day practicing gratitude strengthens our resilience, our patience, and ultimately our feelings of happiness and peace of mind. If you don’t use it, [...]

In-Studio Vaccination Requirement as of September 1

Hey there, I'd like to introduce my son, Finn to everyone that has yet to meet him at the studio. Finn is the super active little dude you may have seen blowing kisses behind the glass door, dancing in the hot room to our favorite playlists, snuggling Julia's dogs on the bean bag chairs, and handing out endless high fives. Finn is our homie with an extra chromie, he has Down syndrome. Finn is also immunocompromised due to a congenital heart defect and at high risk for becoming seriously ill from COVID-19. Finn, like all children under the age [...]

BYUV Class Highlight: Yin Yoga

The style of yoga that most people are familiar with practicing is the “yang” style of yoga. Usually, these styles are a bit more up-tempo and rigorous - Vinyasa, Fusion, Flow, Ashtanga. But of course, every yang needs a yin! Yin Yoga is a more relaxing style, and it is the perfect complement to the rest of your practice.

Work ya Buns!

What’s up with these bridges we do at the beginning of every IHP class? We use glute bridges as a way to warm up for the rest of the class. Spending the majority of the day on our caboose can wreak some serious havoc on our bodies. The backside is underused and overstretched while the front gets shorter and weaker. This leads to the position of our pelvis and spine changing and creates pain and dysfunction through the rest of the body, usually resulting in chronic back pain. Activating your glutes helps get you ready for a more effective class [...]

A Piece by Sophie Wohltjen

Did you know Sophie, yes – email Sophie, is a beautiful writer and currently working on her P.h.D? At the beginning of covid, we asked Sophie to write a piece for us relating to her work, quarantine, and yoga. Enjoy  ❤️❤️❤️❤️ As a Ph.D. student in social psychology, I’m fascinated by the different ways in which we align ourselves with one another. For example, we imitate the people we talk to, from their gestures and facial expressions down to things as tiny as their pupil dilations. And it’s good that we do this because studies have shown that by unconsciously [...]

Everyone Has a First Class

“The first time I came to BYUV in 2016, I thought I was signing up for an evening of hot yoga. Serendipitously,  this night was the night the founder of Inferno Hot Pilates, Gabby, was teaching her first ever class at BYUV and the class was free to all. At first, I was hesitant about a new workout experience but after some friendly encouragement from the staff, I decided to stay and take the class. What followed was, in short, the hardest work out I had ever done! I distinctly remember being amazed at my ability to push myself way [...]

On Grit

Boy, do I feel like I’m being put to some kind of cosmic test. I know you know what I am talking about. At the studio we’ve been working on our growth plan and it’s been moving in the right direction. The staff here is truly dedicated to learning and helping to expand our offerings. We are literally bursting, classes are full, students are smiling. The winter was going along great, the kids, the snow, the dog, the projects, the yoga, good food, trips to the grands, lots of family, lots of friends. Really we are so fortunate. Then came [...]

Our Room

At this moment what’s on the top of my mind is how to help you create and maintain a practice away from our hot room. This is the time where getting to class is really just throwing down a mat and jumping in. From this end Julia and I have worked out the tech details and are now running 17 live virtual classes and two scheduled pre-recorded classes every week. We’re also actively adding to a library of BYUV classes that you can pull and play on your own schedule. Oh, and Julia and Sally have some super effective quick [...]
