Pride Month, Juneteenth, Community and Father’s Day!

June is PRIDE Month, a dedication and celebration of LGBTQIA+ rights and progress. It commemorates the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969 when LGBTQIA+ protesters stood up against police brutality and injustice. Stonewall is considered an important breaking point in a culmination of years of LGBTQIA+ activism. The first Pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago on the one year anniversary of the riots. Today, Pride is celebrated in so many communities around the world that some places celebrate outside of June, so LGBTQIA+ people and their allies can show their support throughout the year.
Vermont Pride Events will be held in Montpelier (starting May 31- June 18). A little closer to home in WRJ, Pride Events will be held in July. Check out the full calendar of free events here. And save the date for Friday, June 28th for the Studio’s annual Pride Class. Costumes, colors, and accessories encouraged!
JUNETEENTH commemorates June 19th, 1865 when  Major General Granger rode into Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free the last enslaved Black Americans, TWO and HALF years after President Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation. On that day 250,000 enslaved people were finally granted freedom.
One of our five core values is COMMUNITY! We celebrate the diverse places we arrive from with a shared purpose to feel better.
Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, June 16th! Get those DAD’s on the mat and they can help themselves to a popsicle after class!

FRC & Anatomy Focus of the Month

The body’s central support structure is the SPINE. Did your know your spine can flex, extend, rotate, and bend side to side? It can also do many of these movements in tandem- like flex and rotate & extend and side bend- due to the distinct segments of 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, and 5 lumbar vertebrae.
Do you have back pain? Approximately 80% of Americans will suffer from back pain in their life; most commonly experienced in the lower back (lumbar spine). Two main reasons for back pain are lack of movement and/or lack of strength in your back. Kinstretch class will give you the most comprehensive experience of your spine- allowing you to assess your back, identify where the pain may be originating, and bringing awareness to movements that may help alleviate pain. If you can’t move it, you can’t strengthen it, so LFG!

Hydration is power!

Staying hydrated in the hot room and in the summer months takes a little extra effort and planning.
In addition to the water bottle that you bring to class, consider your hydration strategy before and after class too. Drinking plenty of water before class ensures that you can get a good sweat on during class, powering the bodies natural AC. It also ensures you’ll feel your best when racing the clock (or your workout buddy) in those chest to deck burpees.
Consider replenishing your stores post-class with an added electrolyte (we recommend LMNT) or a Coconut Water which contains electrolytes as well as vitamins and potassium. Even fresh foods like watermelon, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes are great ways to hydrate.
