Our Mission, OHY, Indigenous Peoples Day, Sharing is Caring Food Shelf, SPINE, and Halloween!
Our Mission at The Studio & the cornerstone of what we do everyday is
to create a safe space where people are encouraged and supported to connect, heal, and grow through life changing classes taught by empowering teachers.
Original Hot Yoga (OHY) was our first offering, its our tried and true, welcoming to beginners and veterans alike. This month we’re talking about the importance of our mission, all our OHY Classes (there are 4!), and why we love them.
Monday, October 14th is Indigenous Peoples Day. The Studio, with humility and respect, acknowledges that it is located on the sovereign, unceded homeland of the Abenaki and Wabanaki People called Ndakinna. Ndakinna includes Vermont, New Hampshire, northern Massachusetts, Western Maine, and Southern Quebec. To learn more about the Indigenous people of this land check out Vital Communities website, and the website of the Abenaki of Vermont and New Hampshire.
During the month, our classes will be focused on the SPINE and all of its movements. Give these Spinal FRC videos a try and read up on why movement is so important for back pain.
It’s Food Drive time! Bring your canned or boxed foods to the Studio or check the link below for the the Sharing is Caring Food Pantry wishlist.
Our Mission
The Studio’s Mission is to create a safe space where people are encouraged and supported to connect, heal, and grow through life changing classes taught by empowering teachers.
Each day our teachers and staff work to create a safe space, this means a place that is welcoming to everyone who steps through the door and into the hot room. From the front desk to the front row, the Studio strives to be a place of non-judgement where people from all walks of life can feel a part of our community. Our teachers are trained to empower students to become stronger and more confident in their bodies and minds. Each class is designed with purpose and intention to meet each student where they are and give them the tools and opportunities to connect, heal, and grow in the areas of their lives where they wish to expand.
Do we do this perfectly every time? No. Are we always learning? Absolutely. While our community of students, teachers and staff changes and our classes evolve with new fitness science, our mission is there as a guide to keep us on track.
With that in mind, we are so excited to be seeing 5 teachers off to training this week in Portsmouth, where they will spend 3 full days with our sister Studio, Blaze learning the in’s and out’s of fitness training. Keep an eye out for their debut’s on the winter schedule.
Sharing Is Caring Food Shelf
According to Feeding American 2022 data, there are over 75,000 people with food insecurity in Vermont and over 135,000 in New Hampshire. Let’s put a dent in food insecurity this month (pun intended)!
Bring your canned and dry goods to the Studio and we will deliver them to the Sharing is Caring Food Pantry in downtown White River Junction. The Food Pantry is open 24/7 and serves anyone in need. Currently, their greatest need is for canned beans, rice, oatmeal and salty snacks (crackers, nuts, etc). Another super easy way to support the food pantry is to check out their more extensive Amazon Wishlist and order items that will be delivered directly to the food pantry!
Original Hot Yoga
Original Hot Yoga (OHY)- the OG of the Studio- was the first and for the first five years, the only class we offered. Formerly know as Bikram, the classic 26 postures plus two breathing exercises is accessible and elegantly simple, making it a welcoming and familiar class for everyone. We know and have experienced the benefits of OHY ourselves; and are happy to offer the original OHY plus a few variations:
OHY 2.0- an sophisticated approach, using our teachers’ many years of training & experience to crack open the requisite mobility and strength for the postures
Hot Beats- OHY set to music and low lighting with simple cueing
OHY 60- short on time but still want a full practice? We got you with our 60 min class.
FRC Focus of the Month
Your SPINE is amazing. It flexes and extends, side bends and twists. It holds up your body, aids in walking and sitting, connects different muscular structures and protects your spinal cord. The cervical spine (C1-C5) comprises your neck, the thoracic spine (T1-T12) is your mid-back, and your lumbar spine (L1-L5) your low back. Enter the Jefferson Curl,a great movement to mobilize the vertebra and bring awareness to each segment of the spine and how it feels.
