Let’s mix it up! Variety in fitness not only keeps things interesting, it prevents plateaus, improves performance, and reduces risk of injury. Variety- whether it’s your routine, which exercises you do, the intensity at which you do them- continues progress. We offer a range of classes at the Studio to keep things fun and continually challenging so you can keep making gains and avoid adaptive resistance. Learn more in our blog about adaptive resistance.
The SPINE is our focus for FRC this month. Jefferson Curls are a great way to nourish your spine and keep it healthy. Follow our quick tutorial video and get curling.
This month’s core value is Inclusivity.

What is Juneteenth? On June 19th, 1865 Major General Granger rode into Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free the last enslaved Black Americans, TWO and HALF years after President Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation.  On that day 250,000 enslaved people were finally granted freedom. THE IMPORTANCE OF VARIETY IN FITNESS

Evolutionarily, we are designed to run, jump, bend, squat, stand, reach, hinge, throw, and dig as hunter gatherers. In our modern lives we typically don’t get that variety of movement in our day to day. We’re also genetically designed to conserve energy, so our bodies become efficient with repetitive exercise, a phenomenon called adaptive resistance.
It’s important to introduce new and different inputs to our exercise regime to avoid adaptive resistance. New inputs create new stimulus, which creates progress over time.

FRC FOCUS: SPINE

Let’s talk about the spine! The spine provides integral support for the body, protects the spinal cord, and allows for a wide range of movements. How do you keep a spine healthy? You move it! Jefferson curls are a great way to nourish the spine. You can do them with feet flat on the floor or elevated on blocks for a little height, weighted or unweighted, and also side to side. Start with your feet on your mat, hip width apart and slowly roll from the top of the cervical spine, through the thoracic and finally the low back. Keep a gentle bend in the knees, when you get to the bottom bend your elbows so your hands stay up off the floor, then push down through your feet to slowly roll back up. Check out the video on more helpful spine tips!
