🏠 Firm Foundation
Our feet are the foundation! Every step we take begins there, yet they’re often the most neglected part of the body. We expect our feet and ankles to support us through thousands of steps each day, absorb force, adapt to uneven surfaces, and keep us balanced—despite spending much of our lives confined to stiff shoes and flat floors. It’s no surprise that stiff ankles, weak feet, and cranky knees have become so common. Common, however, doesn’t mean normal.
👬 Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork: Better Kinetic Flow
They’re a team; our feet, ankles, and knees work together. Limited ankle mobility can change how you squat, climb stairs, walk, run, and even lift weights. Weak or immobile feet can force the knees, hips, and low back to compensate, creating movement patterns that are less efficient and often more painful. While not every knee problem starts in the feet, improving foot strength and ankle mobility often gives the rest of the chain a better foundation to work from. Healthy joints don’t exist in isolation—they rely on the joints above and below them doing their job.
🌳Building Stronger More Resilient Joints From the Ground Up
Throughout the month we’ll be exploring the connection between our feet, ankles, and knees in Yoga, Flow, Kinstretch, and Strength classes. Our goal isn’t simply to stretch tight calves or balance on one foot—it’s to build stronger, more resilient, and more capable joints that can absorb force, produce power, to keep moving confidently for decades to come. Our longevity starts from the ground up!
🦶Footnotes
Pssst! One last thing! Did you know that there is a higher association with foot pain and falls? More than 30 percent of individuals over the age of 65 fall at least once a year. That risk increases by 40% over age 75! Not only does this present numerous health risks, just the fear of falling results in heightened activity avoidance behaviors. The good news is regaining and maintaining foot mobility and strength is possible, not only improving overall health but also empowering us to continue doing all those activities we love for a long time to come.
